KAMPALa: Uganda’s U-12 boys won the East Africa Junior Tennis Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, with a resounding victory, dropping only one set throughout the tournament.
Ambrose Byaruhanga, Rajab Muzamil Seebi, and Samuel Okello took coach Edward Odockcen to the clouds at Kigali’s Ecology Club.
Uganda won the team event against Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, displaying dominance in their performances.
Uganda easily defeated Burundi 3-0, Tanzania suffered the same fate, and Kenya tested Uganda but lost 2-1.
Uganda also dropped their lone set against Kenya. They also defeated Rwanda by a score of 2-0. Uganda has qualified for the Africa Junior Championship thanks to the heroic lads, and Odockchen, who is known for developing young players, is looking forward to the competition.
“The boys gave it their all, especially against Kenya.” It was a tough game, but they came out on top 2-1. It was good exposure for the boys, and we can only hope for the best at the Africa Junior Championships,” Odockchen said.
The coach also received praise in Kigali after defeating Kenya, a team coached by Rosemary Owino, one of the best on the continent.
Dhaanvi Dechamma, who had just won the Kenya National Junior Open, was on the girls’ team. She finished third, behind Kenya and Burundi, with Claire Nalubuula and Olivia Anatukunda.
