NAMIBIA: Uganda’s national netball team, the She Cranes, has won the Africa Netball Championships for the fourth time in a row after defeating Botswana 81-30 today at the Wanderers Arena in Windhoek, Namibia.
Uganda won the game quarters by scores of 18-0, 43-13, 62-22, and 81-30.
The team had previously defeated Tanzania, Zambia, and Namibia to move into second place on the championship standings, trailing only South Africa.
Both teams have yet to concede a win in the round-robin format tournament, and after today’s games, the two are separated by an eight-goal difference.
Meanwhile, Malawi, which lost 56-39 to South Africa, is third, trailing the She Cranes.
Uganda’s defenders, Lilian Ajio, Joan Nampungu, and Shaffie Nalwanja, have done an outstanding job of repelling opposition attackers.
Meanwhile, shooters Irene Eyaru, Stella Oyella, and Hanisha Muhameed alternated with Shadiah Nassanga and Hanisha Muhameed on accuracy.
With victory over all of their opponents in the back of their minds, the She Cranes must score more goals if they are to lead the log and keep third-placed Malawi at bay.
“We are pleased with our previous victories.” We want to win every game, but we also need to score more goals. “I talked to my players about it, but also I expect better results in the next few games,” said Coach Fred Mugerwa.
