The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned Will Smith from its events for 10 years following his assault on Chris Rock at the Oscars.
In an open letter, the organisation apologised for not adequately addressing the situation during the telecast. We are sorry for this. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has expelled Will Smith from its membership. The actor slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, then apologized to the Academy and show attendees.

“I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements,” Smith said in a statement.
