KAMPALA: The nomination of Members of Parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) has kicked off today, Monday, 19 September 2022 in the Parliament Conference Hall.

Nominations are open from 9.00 am to 5.00pm in the Parliament conference Hall.

According to a notice issued by Parliament, candidates shall be nominated either under a political party or as an independent candidate. For a person nominated under a political party, the party must be represented in Parliament. In this case, the party’s Secretary General or a person authorized shall endorse the candidate.

“Each candidate or aspirant may be accompanied by not more than ten persons at the nomination venue. No convoys of vehicles shall be permitted to accompany the candidates at the Parliament building,” a notice reads in part.

Intending Candidates for the EALA elections shall pick the nominations forms from the office of the Clerk. The deadline for picking forms is Tuesday, 20th September by 5:00pm.

Every candidate shall pay a nomination fee of UGX. 3,000,000.Nomination fees shall be paid in cash to Mr. Justus Mugisa (Tel. no. 0772400136) and Ms. Faith Apeduno (Tel. no. 0782611259) in room 212, second floor, south wing and produce evidence of payment at the nomination venue.

All nomination forms shall include the names, signatures and constituency of not less than five Members of Parliament supporting the nomination of the candidate.

Campaigns and Voting for all candidates duly verified and approved by Parliament shall be conducted in Parliament on Thursday, 29th September 2022 starting at 10:00 am.

This comes after Parliament on Friday chose to maintain their current MPs in EALA. They are Rose Akol, James Kakooza, Mary Mugyenyi, Paul Musamali, Dennis Namara and George Stephen Odongo.
