A medical examination conducted by Kitalya Mini Max Prison has confirmed that Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, a novelist arrested in connection with offensive communication against Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, indicates that he was tortured.

According to the report dated January 20, 2022 and addressed to his lawyers, Kiiza and Mugisha Company Advocates, Kakwenza bore torture marks when he was brought to prison.

He also had healing scars on his back, buttocks, thighs, and hands, for which he is on medication, the report signed by Dr James Kisambu on behalf of the Commissioner General of Prisons reads in part.

Nevertheless, the report states that the novelist is in good physical condition.

“Systemic examinations were normal while laboratory examinations did not yield any positive findings. A 33-year-old man on medication for healing scars and in good health condition, “it adds.

The report comes two days after the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) staff visited Kakwenza prison and also observed torture scars.

Yesterday (Monday), UHRC visited Kakwenza at Kitalya government prison. The team from UHRC interacted with him extensively and noted the visible scars and injuries on his body that were healing, “part of the Commission’s tweet.”

Kakwenza was arrested on December 28th, last year and later held incommunicado, where he was allegedly tortured by security personnel.

On Friday last week, he appeared virtually at the Buganda Road Court.
