The Bududa police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and robbery of a 63-year-old businessman, whose body was discovered dumped in the bush late Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Gregory Watenga, a resident of Shisakali village in Bukobero parish, Buwali sub-county, Bududa district.
Watenga was primarily involved in the coffee business, operating in Renyeri village, Renyeri parish, Bundesi sub-county. Residents found Watenga’s body lying in a pool of blood in a trench approximately 25 meters away from a village path.
Reports indicate that the deceased had supplied coffee earlier that Wednesday and had an undisclosed amount of money collected from a trader in Kuwushu Town Council. However, he failed to return as expected, and his body was discovered the following morning.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, noting that the businessman was likely killed elsewhere before being moved to the location where his body was found. He said that the matter has been officially reported to the Bukalasi police station under Case Reference: 04/06/12/2023.
Taitika revealed that the police are currently preserving the crime scene and awaiting the deployment of tracking canines to aid in the investigation.
