KAMULI: Police in Busoga North have arrested a 50-year-old resident of Busamo village, in Kamuli district for chopping off the head of his ex-lover’s 13-year-old son.

It is reported that the suspect identified as Yusuf Mukisa stormed into the house when his ex-lover, Elizabeth Mbwali was away and chopped off the head of her son Benjamin Mugaya. The other two children; Prossy Babirye and Joan Kaudha sustained injuries and are now receiving treatment.

Sarah Gwaliba, an area resident said that the incident happened at around 4:00 am on Sunday. The neighbours were woken up by alarms and overheard the children crying for help. When they rushed to the scene they found them in a pool of blood and rushed them to the hospital while Mukisa was arrested while attempting to flee from the village.

She explained that the mother of the deceased ended her relationship with Mukisa over domestic violence, prompting her to move on with another man. But, Mukisa kept threatening her with revenge for causing him humiliation in the village.

Moses Kaggwa, the GISO of Butansi said the two decided to separate after failing to resolve their grievances during the several harmonization meetings held with the area leaders. He added that the relationship was short-lived because Mbwali could not withstand the violence meted out on her by the man.

Kaggwa further challenged village chairpersons to conduct background checks on new residents before allowing them to stay in their communities, which he said will limit crimes of this nature.

Busoga North’s Police Spokesperson Michael Kasadha said the suspect is now detained at Kamuli Central Police Station, awaiting prosecution. Kasadha further stressed that Mukisa will be subjected to a thorough mental checkup before progressing with the investigations.
