KAMPALA: Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago challenged the Parliamentary Forum on Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) on Thursday, campaigning for the Abuja Declaration, which asks for allocating 15% of the annual budget to strengthening the health system.
The idea was presented at a forum on NCDs and mental health at Ntinda’s Eureka Place, when the Lord Mayor hosted Mayors from the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders’ Initiative on Health and HIV (AMICAALL).
He also expressed his intention to improve the City’s green cover by enacting the Kampala Green Infrastructure Ordinance and planting a City Forest to exhibit diverse tree species and address the city’s concrete and mortar challenges.
This initiative is part of the WHO-UNDP Global Joint Programme, which focuses on integrating NCDs and Mental Health into existing initiatives in Kampala and the eight newly established cities of Masaka, Gulu, Lira, Mbarara, Fortportal, Hoima, Jinja, and Mbale.
