Pupils at two schools in Namisindwa district are in a difficult situation following a severe storm that ravaged their classrooms. The affected are Kisawi Primary School in Bumoni sub-county, and Sabino Primary School in Bukiabi sub-county. According to Jackson Wakwaika, the Namisindwa district LCV chairperson, the heavy rains that pounded the district Sunday night not only demolished the schools’ classrooms but also caused damage to crops and houses in Bubutu, Bukiabi, Bumwoni sub-counties, and Bubutu town council, among others.
Wakwaika has called on the affected school authorities and the area LC III chairpersons to compile a report detailing the impact on households and properties. He says that the report will be shared with the district disaster management team, and then forwarded to the Prime Minister’s office in Kampala for a response.
Shedrack Khaukha, the head of Kisawi Primary School, revealed that an entire block of three classrooms had been destroyed. Consequently, they are considering sending the children home temporarily since there is no suitable place for them to study.
Yowani Lugwani, the LC II chairperson of Kisawayi parish and the Kisawayi Primary School Management Committee, has appealed to the government and stakeholders for assistance in providing construction materials.
