Five suspects are in police custody Kabale District on suspicion of murder, involving the gruesome killing of a 32-year-old electrician. The suspects are Pasiono Besigye, the proprietor of Bambocha Bar and Lodges, along with his two employees Ben Kakuru and Sam Niwahereza, Medard Atwebembeire, the manager of Standard Hotel, and Amos Turinawe, a resident of Nyamweru Sub County in Rubanda District.
Bambocha Bar and Lodges is a popular spot for commercial sex workers in the Kigezi region. The suspects are currently in custody at Kabale Central Police Station, awaiting further investigation and legal proceedings. The victim, identified as Conrad Ninsiima, was discovered lifeless on May 13, 2023, in the morning hours. His body was found near the Kihumuro-Rushaki roundabout in Nyamabare village, which is part of the Rushaki ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The deceased had deep cuts on his throat, but strangely, there was no blood around his body. According to Ronald Ayebare, a relative of the deceased, Turinawe appeared during the mourning period and confessed to his involvement in the murder. Ayebare claimed that Turinawe revealed the details of the heinous act, explaining that Ninsiima was offered Torrero, a local gin, at Bambocha Bar and Lodges to intoxicate him. Ayebare further disclosed that Turinawe admitted to taking advantage of Ninsiima’s inebriated state by luring him to a secret room, where he and the other suspects allegedly slit his throat using a knife.
The suspects then reportedly drained the victim’s blood into a red basin, which was subsequently handed over to a driver for transportation to Lake Bunyonyi, where it was intended for sale to an unidentified individual. Ayebare also recounted Turinawe’s claim that he was the one who persuaded Ninsiima to accompany him to Bambocha Bar after encountering him near the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) offices in Kigongi, central division of Kabale town.
Patrick Mugabe, the LC1 Chairman of Nyarukonkoromi village, stated that to prevent locals from taking the law into their own hands, Turinawe was swiftly transported to Kabale police station to assist in identifying his other accomplices. Mugabe expressed shock at Turinawe’s revelation that Ninsiima was the sixth person to be murdered in Kabale Municipality under the same circumstances and with the same motive within the past year.
On Monday evening, police investigators escorted Turinawe to Bambocha Bar and Lodges, where he was asked to indicate the exact location where the killing took place. Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigation into the matter.
