Three health workers from Kihihi Health Center IV in the Kihihi town council in Kanungu district are in trouble over the disappearance of an oxygen concentrator from the facility.
They are Gildo Abampurira, Justina Saturday, and Alijah Owamani. The trio are locked up at Kihihi police station following their arrest on Tuesday evening on the orders of the Resident District Commissioner, Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaaju.
Rugaaju ordered the trio’s arrest when they failed to explain the whereabouts of the oxygen concentrator, which helps patients with breathing difficulties such as severe COVID-19 cases. He explains that despite the fact that the oxygen concentrator went missing on July 7th, the medical workers didn’t report it until July 17th, 2022, when they notified the police.
According to Rugaaju, the missing oxygen concentrator is valued at 4.5 million schillings. He says that efforts are ongoing by security and health officials to trace the whereabouts of the life-saving equipment, adding that once they fail to find it, they will compel the health workers to buy it.
The case is registered at the Kihihi police station via police file number SD 11/17/07/2022.
