KAMPALA: Sudan’s head of civil aviation has on Wednesday before noon announced the reopening of Khartoum International Airport by 4:00pm- Sudan’s local time for all inbound and outbound flights.
This comes after all flights to and from the airport were temporarily suspended on Tuesday by Sudan’s civil aviation authority following the unrest resulting from a military coup that broke out in the country on Monday morning.
Khartoum International Airport was set for reopening on Saturday, October 30, 2021 but later, the date was attuned to permit all inbound and outbound flights amidst the ongoing protests.
The protests were instigated by the arrest of pro-democracy civilians and leaders including the deposed Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok and his wife who were later returned to their home following international condemnation of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s power seize by the U.S, Antonio Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations European Union.
Nevertheless, detained ministers and political figures still remain under arrest.
