FIXTURES:
Tuesday, May 9@2pm:
Bright Stars v Vipers
Tuesday, May 9@4pm:
Gaddafi FC v Maroons
Defending champions Vipers SC could go top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the first time season if they beat or draw with Bright Stars in a scheduled match on Tuesday, May 9 at the Kavumba Recreational ground.
Currently placed second on the 15-team table (with 45 points from 23 games), Vipers are enjoying a rich vein of form that has seen them win three of their last five games.
Vipers are just one point behind leaders SC Villa, who have 46 points from 25 games. This means the Venoms, who also boast of huge goal different (20 compared to Villa’s five) could go to the summit if they avoid defeat at Bright Stars on Tuesday afternoon.
However, it will not be an easy task for coach Alex Isabirye’s Vipers against a Bright Stars’ side that has lost only once in their last five games. Bright Stars have 32 points from 24 games and in the ninth position.
In the first round fixture, Bright Stars held Vipers to a goal-less draw on September 30, 2022 at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
Tuesday’s game between Bright Stars and Vipers is also precursor for the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinals in which the two teams will meet again over two legs in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Jinja-based Gaddafi FC will host Maroons FC at the Kakindu stadium in the other league match scheduled for Tuesday.
