A rejuvenated SC Villa side will seek to extend their lead to four points on top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League when they host Bright Stars on Tuesday, April 4 at the Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
Going into Tuesday’s match, SC Villa lead the 15-team league table with 37 points from 19 games. KCCA FC are second with 36 points from 17 matches.
Villa, who are vying to end a 19-year title drought, assumed the top spot after their narrow 1-0 win over Busoga United on Friday, March 31. The Jogoos toppled KCCA, who had held the table leadership since November 2022.
Villa’s last league title was in 2004, but their fortunes this season have dramatically changed in the last two months despite being docked three points and three goals for hooliganism.
For instance, the Jogoos’ impressive form has seen them win four consecutive league games over Onduparaka, Express FC, BUL and Busoga United in recent weeks.
They, however, face an unpredictable Bright Stars’ side. Bright Stars lost 0-2 to URA FC in their last game on Saturday, April 1.
In their first round match, Villa beat Bright Stars 1-0 last November at the Kavumba Recreation grounds. If Villa beat the Stars again on Tuesday, they will open up a four-point lead on top, for at least 24 hours as second-placed KCCA will have a chance to peg them back when they play Blacks Power FC on Wednesday, April 5.
