Former champions SC Villa ascended to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after beating Busoga United 1-0 in one of the games played on Friday(March 31) evening.

Frank Kalule scored Villa’s late lone winner at the Kakindu stadium in Jinja.

Villa, who last won the league title in 2004, now lead the 15-team table with 37 points from 19 games.

The Jogoos could, however, be dethroned after 24 hours if KCCA FC win their scheduled match against Maroons on Saturday, April 1. KCCA (with 34 points from 16 games) dropped to second place after Villa’s victory on Friday.

In the other games on Friday, Allan Kayiwa scored twice, Boban Zirintusa and Marvin Oshaba added one apiece as Express FC romped to a 4-1 victory over Onduparaka FC at the Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

This is Express’ only victory in their last six games. The former champions, however, remain in the eleventh position on the 15-team table with 22 points from 19 games.

Army side, UPDF FC, upset Wakiso Giants 1-0 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.

The league continues Saturday (April 1) with KCCA hosting Maroons at Lugogo while Bright Stars welcome URA FC at Kavumba Recreation grounds.
