Felix Kakaire was the star of the day in Saturday (March 25)’s Jinja College (JICO) Old Boys Football League as he hit four goals in the Collegians’ impressive 4-1 win over Nvuluga FC, who were the pre-match favourites.
Kakaire, who took his tally to seven goals in eight games so far, was indeed the toast of Match-day Four action at the Volta Arena in Kyanja. The 6-aside league features 14 teams, featuring the school’s Old Boys.
On Saturday, fourteen games were played amidst fun as old boys, friends and fans cheered their teams and mingled freely. Off the pitch, there was entertaining; a rap competition, music, food and drinks in plenty.
Before their match, nobody gave chance to the Collegians, who physically looked the unfit side compared to Nvuluga’s younger and energetic players.
But the Collegians proved to be tactically smarter once the game kicked off; they defended tightly, leaving no space for Nvuluga players to maneuver. And every time the Collegians attacked the ball got to unmarked Kakaire, who used his burly frame to shrug off the smaller opponents and score.
“Class attracts class; we are the classy Collegians,” Kakaire bragged after picking up the match ball reward for his goals.

In their second game, however, the Collegians failed to score as they settled for a goalless draw with Kaswandi FC, who are bankrolled by TheKampalaReport.
Despite donning a new set of jerseys, Kaswandi did not live up to the billing on match-day four as they lost 0-1 to Mbokya in their first game.
“We had some weakness in the midfield in that game [against Mbokya] because one of star players in that department was not around, but we shall do better next time,” Opio Katandi, one of Kaswandi’s technical officials, explained.

In the other day’s highlight, leaders Nvuuyo FC thrashed Mbuyuga FC 4-0 before they were succumbed to a shock 1-3 defeat at the hands of ALGI FC. However, Nvuuyo remain top of the 14-team league with 21 points from eight games.
Solida FC beat Mboyo 2-0; LXG defeated Mbuyaga 2-0; Kibaati FC edged Scorpion Kings 1-0; Oweina drew 1-1 with Nvuluga while Mboyo FC beat Miggoiso FC 2-0;
Match-day Five games are scheduled for April 29 at the same venue, according to Ronald Nakwagala, one of the league organizing officials.
The JICO League officials are pleased with its impact thus far as it profile continues to grow in network while attracting sponsors such as TheKampalaReport, Track24, S-Line Motors, Uvotam and Spouts of Water that are already onboard.
“Overall, match-day four has been impressive because every cohort improved on the turn up even though rain disrupted us at some point. Also, every team brought in a number of ladies,” Nakwagala noted.
