AFCON QUALIFIER
Friday, March 24@5pm:
Uganda Cranes v Tanzania Taifa Stars
The senior national football team, Uganda Cranes, warmed up for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania Taifa Stars with a 3-1 victory over Egyptian club Ismaily SC in a practice match played Tuesday, March 21.
Fahad Bayo, Rogers Mato and Richard Basangwa scored the goals for the Cranes, who have already pitched camp in Egypt where Uganda will play host Tanzania on Friday, March 24.
Uganda opted to host the game at the Suez Canal Authority stadium in Ismailia due to lack of a CAF-approved stadium in the country.
Meanwhile, coach Milutin Micho Sredojovic has a full house in the camp after all foreign based players reported to camp in Cairo on Tuesday, March 21. The group comprising home based players flew to Cairo on Sunday, March 19.
The Cranes, who are pooled with Algeria, Niger and Tanzania in Group F, desperately need victory on Friday to revive their chances of qualifying for the 2023 AFCON Finals.
Currently, the Cranes are bottom of the group with just one point after two games. Algeria, who host Niger in Algiers on Friday, lead the group with six points.
