Niger upset Ghana 2-0 in one of the quarterfinal matches played Saturday night (January 28) to book a semifinal berth against hosts Algeria at the ongoing 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
Traditionally, Ghana are one of the football powerhouses on the African continent and were among the favourites before the CHAN tournament kicked off on January 13 in Algeria.
However, Niger, widely considered outsiders, outplayed the Ghanains in Saturday’s quarterfinal match.
Niger will now face Algeria in one of the semifinal matches slated for Tuesday, January 31.
Madagascar, meanwhile, beat Mozambique 3-1 in the other quarterfinal match on Saturday night to date Senegal in the semifinals.
