Ghana v Sudan

Skipper Milton Karisa scored the lone winner for the Uganda Cranes to upset Senegal 1-0 on Wednesday, January 18 in a Group B match at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in Algeria.

The big win for the Cranes came just hours after telecom giants MTN Uganda announced the Shs 19 billion sponsorship deal over five years for the national football team.

With this victory over Senegal, the Cranes lead Group B now with four points after two games and are on the blink of qualifying for the quarterfinals for the first time in this tournament.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi saved a penalty and made two other crucial saves to deny 10-man Senegal.

In their opening game, the Cranes held the Democratic Republic Congo to a goal-less draw on January 14 while Senegal, who dropped to second place with three points, beat Ivory Coast 1-0.

In the early kick-off game on Wednesday, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ivory Coast shared spoils in a 0-0 draw. That means DR Congo are in third position with two points while Ivory Coast sit bottom of the group with one point.

The final group games will be played on January 22, with the Uganda Cranes taking on Ivory Coast while Senegal will battle DR Congo.
