A mob has lynched a man who had earlier killed three members of his family and injured another in a scuffle that was reported this morning at Kyeba Village in Bugiri District.
The man identified as Shaban Mukhooli is reported to have killed his mother Suzanne Chebet, 60, his wife Jessica Nabbanja, 40, and his son Mutwalo Mukhooli, 6. He also injured his brother, Godfrey MukhoolI, who is now admitted to Bugiri General Hospital.
Moses Masanga, the village chairperson says that Mukhooli had a known mental illness and his family members had opted to resettle him in the village home, alongside the rest of his family. He explains that after killing his family, Mukhooli used the same machete to slaughter all the livestock in their neighbourhood before fleeing.
Although they later arrested him and succeeded in locking him up, angry residents stormed the room in which he had been kept and lynched him before the police arrived.
Busoga East police spokesperson Diana Nandawula says that the killer’s weapon has been retrieved from the crime scene as police launched investigations into the gruesome acts.
