The State House Anti-Corruption Unit working together with police on Friday arraigned four Hoima District officials before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of abuse of office.
The officials are Baguma Daniel, the Procurement Officer; Kiiza Simon, the Senior Assistant Secretary; Nsungwa Faiza, the Accountant; Byaruhanga Rogers, the Statistician.
The accused allegedly violated the public procurement laws and regulations through manipulating the bidding system and process to favour a certain bidder for the management of the revenue sources of Runga Landing site Market, Hoima District. They denied the charges.
It was not immediately clear if they were remanded or granted bail.
Earlier on Thursday, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit arraigned teachers; Achan Winifred and Aramathan Mugenyi before the Chief Magistrates Court in Fort Portal on charges of forgery and uttering false documents.
The accused allegedly forged appointment letters, posting instructions purportedly signed by the PS at the Ministry of Education and Sports and minutes of the Education Service Commission, appointing them to teach at Kibito S.S in Bunyangabu and Mpanga S.S in Fort Portal. They have been remanded till 5/12/22.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has stepped up the hunt against civil servants accused of corruption.
On November 18, they arrested Rakai CAO Kamara William and the District Engineer Ssentamu Julius on accusation of falsely accounting for over UGX37M, that was meant for maintenance works on the Byezitire – Nakasenyi-Lwenanga road but no work was done.
On November 16, they arraigned Cherop Luke Joseph and Kiplangat Jacob to Chief Magistrates Court, Mbale on the Charges of Fraudulent Procurement of a land title, Forgery, Uttering false document & Conspiracy to defraud. They are remanded till 29/11/2022. The accused are said to have fraudulently procured a Certificate of title and forged transfer forms for the property of land in Mbale District belonging to Rev. Wademba Dison purporting to have been signed by the registered owner whereas not.
On November 11, they arraigned at Buganda Road Court, Kizito Leonard and Muganiira Apollo a Community Development Officer for Bukomera TC, Kiboga district on charges of uttering false documents & conspiracy to commit a felony. They were remanded till 14/11/2022.
The accused allegedly presented false documents to the Administrator General with intention of fraudulently acquiring certificates of no objection for 8 deceased persons, claiming that the families of the deceased agreed, they be given the letters of administration whereas not.
On November 4, Adiga Aloyscious and Kalyebi Denis were sentenced to 8 and 12 years imprisonment respectively, on charges of forgery and uttering false documents. They were also ordered to pay UGX15M each as compensation to Government.
The two forged appointment letters, posting instructions, and introductory letters purportedly signed by the Principal HR Officer at the Education ministry and the Education Service Commission, to secure teaching jobs at Nyamango Technical Institute in Kyenjojo district.
