Police in Kampala have explained that that the purported attack at Kensington Police Post, Kyanja, was a ride-along shooting.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesman Luke Owoyesigire, while the gunshots were directed at the police post, none of their officers were injured.

“Police at Kiira Road are investigating an incident that happened today at around 1:00 am, at Kensington Police Post, Kyanja,” Owoyesigyire told journalists in Kampala on Monday, 14 November 2022.

“Officers, while on duty, heard two gunshots and a speeding motorcycle. The gunshots were directed at the police post and the glass window was shattered. None of the officers registered any injuries,” he said.

“We have since established that this was a ride-along shooting. No one has been arrested so far.”
This comes two weeks after gunmen attacked Busiika Police Post in Luweero District and killed two officers before making with guns.

The deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi, later said their preliminary investigations indicate that the grotesque raid on Busiika Police Post was carried out by a rebel outfit called Coalition for Change.

“The problem of attacking police posts and taking guns is a deliberate effort by a group of people who seem to think that they can change the government by force. So it’s no longer the same criminals who come and attack with machetes and rob. This is mainly to kill and take guns,” he said.

“The trend is growing … these ones are attacking both private security and police posts with an intention of taking guns. I would like to assure the public that we are dealing with it head-on to ensure that we contain those attacks,” he added.
