It was a dramatic round seven of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) in which SC Villa, eyeing the top spot, slipped up as defending champions Vipers SC bounced back to winning ways.
In the match-day seven games played on Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12, Villa, who were second and within one point of assuming the UPL table leadership, lost 1-2 to Wakiso Giants in a chaotic match the Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
The match was marred by crowd violence as angry Villa fans pelted objects on the pitch, accusing the match officials of being biased.
In the end, Villa lost three points and are now in third position, with 13 points from seven games thus far. Villa, who still hold the record of 16 league titles under their belt, have not won the league since 2004 but their impressive start to this season has aroused optimism that the Jogoos could end the title drought.
Wakiso Giants, on the other hand, moved to second place after beating SC Villa. They are level on 14 points with leaders BUL FC, but the latter has a superior goal difference of eight in seven matches.
Meanwhile, defending champions Vipers returned to winning ways by beating Blacks Power FC 1-0 on Friday at the Akii-bua stadium in Lira. Vipers were held to a 1-1 draw by Wakiso Giants before their victory over Blacks Power.

However, the champions are still in stuck in the lower bottom half of the 16-team table standings as they are in nineth position, with eight points from five games so far.
Elsewhere, former champions URA FC picked up their second win in seven matches after beating Arua Hill SC 1-0 on Saturday, November 12 at the Nakisunga playground. URA moved to seventh position with nine points after their victory over Arua Hill.
KCCA FC and Express FC were the also winners on match-day seven, with identical 1-0 victories over UPDF FC and BUL FC respectively.
The league resumes on Tuesday, November 15 with match-day eight games.
