The presidential adviser on special military operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has promised to become the President of Uganda as a special thank you gift to his mother, Janet Museveni.

According to Muhoozi, his mother has been like an angel to him.

“The only way I can re-pay my great mother is by being President of Uganda! And I shall definitely do it!” he tweeted on Thursday, 27 October 2022.

“My mother has always been an angel for me. She is simply perfect! Like most men feel for their mothers!” he added.

This comes weeks after Gen Muhoozi was sacked as Commander of Land Forces following his controversial tweet that caused a diplomatic row with Kenya. However, his father, President Museveni promoted him to a General.
While being pipped as General days later, he exclaimed that now he would have time to meet the youth and his supporters while promoting development. Last weekend, he was in Arua to meet some of the youth.
However, critics say all these are signs that he is being mooted by President Museveni to replace him when the latter retires.

Thursday’s tweet also drew mixed reactions from across the political and social divides.
Some wondered how a man still serving in the military declares political aspirations contrary to the UPDF Act and is left scot-free.

“A serving military officer vows to become president of Uganda. Hehehe,” Abraham Magero tweeted.
Joseph Kizwaneza said: “A serving soldier is openly in partisan politics. This a shame to UPDF and president Museveni should take the blame for losing control of the Son. (Results of long grip on power)”

Jack Mu tweeted: I don’t think presidency has anything to do with repaying a mother. Just know if you are to be a president then you are born when you were a president because a president is born and not an admirer of the seat of presidency.

Trent M tweeted: “Please someone help Gen Kainerugaba to understand that Uganda isn’t for apprenticeship, he can gain leadership experience by vying for the leadership of his local drinking joint otherwise it seems the drinking General has hit the pub too early this week.”

Oco Dansan tweeted: Not every Toms and Jerry can be presidential materials. You need the same number of years you have to be able to lead as LC1 defence.

Erukana tweeted: They do not just become leaders, you should pray to God because it’s written in the holy Bible, that ” leadership comes from God”. You don’t wish and become.

Mr Sebunya tweeted: Thanks for listening to the voices of millions of Ugandans who are requesting you to stand for the presidency. You’re the only capable leader to succeed our great leader Museveni.
