The Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy FM, Pius Kamugisha, has died in a car accident after a Benz he was driving collided with Toyota Hilux.
The accident occurred at Nakigala along the Entebbe Kampala Express highway at around 10pm on Saturday.
Traffic Police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima said the accident involved motor vehicle registration number UG 0382D (Toyota Hilux) that was being driven by Lt Col Byaruhanga Ephraim, the I.O at 1st Division headquarters in Kakiri.
Kamugisha is said to have died on the way to hospital after sustaining severe injuries.
According to police, both Lt Col Byaruhanga and Kamugisha were from Entebbe side heading to Busega side when the crash happened.
“It is alleged that towards Nakigalala at Kilometre 10, the driver of UBK 320P (Kamugisha) who was speeding decided to overtake MV UG which was driving in the outer lane at a short distance, in the process, he knocked MV UG 0382D on rear light on the driver’s side, continued by scratching the driver’s door and then hit off the side mirror,” Nampiima said, adding that “Kamugisha then lost control and knocked the middle concrete barrier before his vehicle crossed back to the outer lane, rolled to the trench and overturned several times up to the resting position approximately 600m from the point of impact.”
The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving and drink driving, with Nampiima saying that some bottles of alcohol were recovered from the vehicle of the deceased.
“The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mulago mortuary,” she said.
Galaxy FM in a statement said burial arrangements will be announced later.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our Co-Director and Chairman, Mr Pius Kamugisha (Uncle Pio). May His Soul Rest in Peace,” they said.
Dr Innocent Nahabwe, the CEO and owner of Galaxy FM, was equally disconsolate about the passing of Kamugisha and wished him eternal rest.
