UCU v UMU Nkozi
Uganda Christian University (UCU) will host former champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi in the first leg of their semifinal tie in the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) slated for Thursday, October 20.
The Mukono-based UCU are the defending champions, and their coach Collines Ahumuza says his team is looking forward to the game.
“We have prepared well for the game; the boys are fit and ready,” Ahumuza stated during a pre-match media conference held on Wednesday, October 19.
He added: “Uganda Martyrs is a good team. All the teams that are tat this stage are good teams but we believe we have what it takes and shall win. It won’t be an easy win for us but the boys are focused and we know what we want as a team.”
His counterpart Eric Kisuze said his team will be out to get a good result from Mukono.
“We are not taking UCU as a light team; they are the defending champions but we are going to play with all our strength so as to get a positive result,” Kisuze stated.
The two sides have met seven times before. The first time was in 2014 in Nkozi in the group stage which game UCU won 0-2. After that they met three times in the quarter-final stage in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and each time it was UMU Nkoxi that advanced to the semifinals.
To reach the semifinals, UCU eliminated Nkumba University 2-0 on aggregate after a goalless draw in the first leg away and a 2-0 win in the second leg at home. While Nkozi edged Bugema University 3-2 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw in the first leg away and a 2-1 win in the second leg at home.
