The game between SC Villa and Express FC will be the toast of the weekend action in match-day three of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) as the two sides renew their rivalry.

The game will be played on Friday, October 14 with SC Villa as the hosts at the Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku, which ironically was Express’ homeground for several decades until the Jogoos moved there this season.

Going into Friday’s tie, SC Villa are coming off a goal-less draw with Onduparaka FC while Express FC defeated URA FC (1-0) in their respective match-day two games played last week at the same venue.

Despite their faded influence in the Ugandan topflight league, a match between SC Villa and Express FC still holds the spark of their traditional bitter rivalry that dominated the game in the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s.

Villa, who still hold the record of winning many league titles (16), last won the league in 2004 while Express were champions in 2020.

Meanwhile, former champions URA FC will host BUL FC in the other UPL game on Friday afternoon at Nakisunga Saza ground.

GAMES RESCHEDULED

In a related development, the UPL secretariat has rescheduled two games; Onduparaka FC v Express FC and SC Villa v Busoga United FC, to accommodate the international engagement for the national U-23s (Kobs) slated for October 29.

The two games were scheduled for October 29 but have been brought forward to October 28, according to a statement issued on Thursday, October 13 by UPL chief executive officer Benard Bainamani.

The Kobs will host Guinea on October 29 at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
