Joseph Kayondo scored a stunning free kick in the 89th minute as Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), Nkozi edged Bugema University 2-1 in the second leg of their Pepsi University Football League quarterfinal tie Tuesday, October 4 at Nkozi playground.
The victory means Nkozi sealed the tie 3-2 on aggregate and progress to the semifinals for their second consecutive season and third time in the last four seasons.
Sunny Kaija gave the hosts the lead in the 36th minute but Swalifidin Ssebaale equalized in the 75th minute to set up a tense final fifteen minutes of the game that saw Kayondo score the winner with a free kick from the edge of the centre arc.
Nkozi join St Lawrence University in the semifinals. St Lawrence eliminated Kampala University last week. In the remaining two quarterfinal ties, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono host Nkumba University for the return leg game on Thursday, October 6. The first leg ended 0-0.
