Jacob Kiplimo, fresh from winning the 10,000m and 5,000m Commonwealth Games races in Birmingham, returned to England in style by adding the Great North Run title on Sunday, September 11.
Kiplimo won the 21-kilometre Great North Run after clocking 59 minutes 33 seconds to beat Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega (1 hour 39 seconds) and Kenenisa Bekele (1hour 1minute one second) in second and third place respectively.
The 21-year-old star runner became the first Ugandan athlete to win the Great North Run in 41 years of the competition.
Last month, Kiplimo was the star of Team Uganda to the 2022 Commonwealth Games that were staged in Birmingham, England.
He achieved a double gold medal success at the Games by winning the 10, 000m and 5,000m final races to the delight of many fans at the Alexander stadium.
