KAMPALA: The controversial Nyege Nyege event, scheduled for Thursday, September 15, 2022, has been cleared by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
This decision was made during an emergency meeting conducted by the Premier on Wednesday morning at her office with Nyege Nyege festival organisers and other stakeholders that discussed “matters relating to the hosting of the Nyege Nyege performance.”
The Prime Minister told the press in a meeting attended by Police, Ministers of Tourism, Internal Affairs, Gender, Labor and Social Development, ICT and National Guidance, and Ethics and Integrity that the festival will go on as scheduled, but with strict guidelines due to the high number of foreign guests who had already purchased tickets.
On Wednesday, Parliament ordered the cancellation of Nyege Nyege, a contentious three-day event held at the Source of the Nile in Jinja district.
The festival was first held in 2013 festival over concerns of immorality.
Since its inception in 2013, the festival has raised concerns about immorality.
