Uganda Cranes booked their place at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Finals after beating Tanzania 3-0 on Saturday, September 3 in the return leg game of the qualifiers.
Having won the first leg match 1-0 in Dar es Salaam a week ago, the Cranes sealed their slot to the Finals on a 4-0 aggregate victory. The 2022 CHAN Finals tournament is slated for January, January 2023 in Algeria.
In Saturday’s game at the St Mary’s stadium Kitende, the Cranes killed off any possibility of Tanzania’s comeback with goals by Moses Waiswa, Rogers Mato and Richard Basangwa. The Cranes won the first leg game 1-0, thanks to Travis Mutyaba’s goal.
This will be the sixth time for the Cranes to appear at the CHAN Finals after competing in the 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 editions of the tournament. Only home-based players, featuring in the domestic leagues across Africa are allowed to participate in the CHAN tournament.

In a related development, local football governing body, FUFA announced each member of the Uganda Cranes team (Players and officials) will receive a qualification bonus of $2,500 or Shs 9.5 million. This was confirmed by FUFA president Moses Magogo shortly after the Cranes eliminated Tanzania to qualify for the 2022 CHAN Finals.
