Following their recent memorial tournament success, the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) shifted focus to their golden jubilee celebrations in which the club will launch a campaign to build two modern training centres.
Hamza Lubwama, the club president, told us that they recently acquired land in Mukono and Zirobwe where they plan to set up modern facilities to train future stars.
“We want to have volleyball centres that can develop skills and also usher in professionalism,” Lubwama stated.
He added that KAVC wants to invest as a club and make some income. Once money starts coming in, athletes will view volleyball as a platform for gainful employment.
Last week, KAVC successfully hosted the 25th edition of the NSSF-KAVC Memorial International tournament at the MTN arena, Lugogo.
Rwanda’s APR Volleyball Club won both the women and men’s category titles.
