Uganda’s star runner, Jacob Kiplimo, completed a double gold medal success at the 2022 Commonwealth Games by winning the 5,000m final on Saturday (August 6) night at the Alexander stadium in Birmingham, England.
Coming off the 10,000m success in the mid-week at the same the same venue, Kiplimo dashed to the finish line in 13 minutes 08:08 seconds, beating the Kenyan duo of Nicholas Kimeli (13 minutes 08:19 seconds) and Jacob Krop (13 minutes 08:49seconds) in second and third place respectively.
It was a great victory for Kiplimo in the absence of his teammate and compatriot Joshua Cheptegei, who skipped the Commonwealth Games after getting injured during the IAAF World Championships in Oregon last month.

By winning both the 10,000m and 5000m races, 21-year-old Kiplimo has proved capable of getting out of the shadow of Cheptegei.
His 5000m success extends Team Uganda’s medal tally to five; three gold and two bronze medals, thus far.
