Police in Kakumiro have arrested a 28-year-old man over the brutal murder of a woman.
The suspect is Everisto Kisakye, a resident of Kyakachwende cell, Kakindo town council, while the deceased is Constance Kyasimiire, 38, a mother of six and a resident of Kiryabukurura village, Kikwaya Sub County.
It is reported that Kyasimire on Tuesday took her two sick children to Kakindo Health Center III in Kakindo town council for treatment after they developed malaria.
The two children were later admitted to the health facility after their sickness intensified. However, on Wednesday night, at around 11 p.m., Kyasimiire, who was attending to her two sick children, went mysteriously missing from the health facility.
Health officials and other patients at the health facility became concerned after realising that Kyasimiire had gone missing for hours and her children were crying helplessly. This prompted health officials and other patients to start searching for her in vain.
Kakindo health centre IV officer in charge, says after searching for her in vain, they were compelled to alert the police, who immediately swung into action and joined them in the search.
The Albertine region police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, says after a vigorous search, the lifeless body of Kyasimiire was found buried in a garden belonging to the suspect on Thursday evening.
The body had bruises on the neck and private parts, an indication that the deceased could have been raped before she was brutally murdered. He claims they went ahead and searched the suspect’s home, recovering the deceased’s clothes.
Everisto Kisakye was immediately whisked to Kakumiro central police station, where he is currently being detained on charges of murder, adding that the hunt for other suspects believed to have connived with Kisakye to commit the crime is ongoing.
The deceased’s husband, Christopher Twinamasiko, says he remained home taking care of other children when he got a call at around 1:00am on Wednesday alerting him that his wife had gone missing from the health center.
He immediately rushed and joined efforts to search for his missing wife, only to find her lifeless body buried in Kisakye garden.
Emmanuel Serrunjogi, the area LCI Chairperson wants the incident to be thoroughly investigated and have those behind the brutal murder punished accordingly.
Robert Irumba, the Kakindo town council LCIII Chairperson, has condemned the incident and asked the police to expedite investigations for justice to prevail since the suspect is a reputed hardcore criminal in the area.
