Six years after it was commissioned, a Nodding Syndrome care centre in Kitgum District that was initially valued at 150 million shillings is still unused.
Located in Tumangu Parish, Labongo Akwang Sub-county, the centre sits on a 2-acre piece of land donated by two families, whose children are suffering from nodding syndrome. It was then constructed by Hope For Humans, a project initiated by Dr. Suzanne Gadza, a neurosurgeon from the United States.
The project was intended to provide feeding, psycho-social support, and vocational training to children in Acholi.
The Tumangu Nodding Care Center in Kitgum was commissioned in 2017 by President Yoweri Museveni, but the organisation immediately said it had run out of funds to continue supporting the children and asked the government to take over.
However, the centre was never used and is now surrounded by bushes, as seen in the pictures.
