The national women’s soccer team, Crested Cranes, have conducted successful training sessions in Morocco’s western city of Marrakesh as they prepare for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) kick-off due July 2.
The Crested Cranes, coming off a regional CECAFA championship triumph earlier this month, camped in Marrakesh since June 25 for the final touches before heading to the capital, Rabat, on Thursday, June 30.
The WAFCON tournament kicks off Saturday, July 2 with hosts Morocco playing against Burkina Faso in Group A.
The Crested Cranes start their campaign against Senegal a day later (July 3) in the same group.

In his post training media interview with FUFA Media on Monday, June 27, Coach George Lutalo said the Crested Cranes are ready for the opener against Senegal. “The girls are raring to go; we have had very good training sessions here in Marrakesh for the last couple of days,” he said.
The Crested Cranes last played at the WAFCON Finals way back in 2000. This is only their second appearance at the WAFCON tournament finals.
After Senegal, the Crested Cranes will take on hosts Morocco on July 5 and wind up the group stage games against Burkina Faso on July 8.
