AGAGO: Leaders in Agago are alarmed by residents who want to commit suicide in desperation after their gardens being destroyed by hailstorms.
The farmers who want to take their lives are mostly found in Adilang sub-county in Agago district who say they have lost everything following a heavy hailstorm that destroyed acres of their crops on Monday evening.
The Speaker of Adilang Town Council, Bosco Koko, confirms that the hailstorm destroyed every item of vegetation in Lumule parish in Adilang town Council, as well as crops in Lagwa and Kulaka parishes in Adilang sub- county.
Koko says an estimated 1,000 households in Lagwa, Lumule and Kulaka parishes are affected.
Koko appeals to the responsible authorities in the district to look for ways of helping the affected families in order to avert suicide incidences, saying they are threatening to take their lives after losing all their crops and livestock.
Mohamed Okwir the LC 3 chairperson of Adilang sub-county, said he has heard about the devastation in Adilang sub-county and Adilang Town council.
Okwir however says the leaders are yet to make a follow-up today to assess the extent of the destruction.
“We still do not know the exact extent of destruction left by the hailstorm as the affected areas are still flooded,” Okwir said.
