Algeria versus Uganda Cranes
Uganda Cranes’ preparations for their opening group qualifier against Algeria have been boosted with the arrival of three England-based players; Ibra Sekajja, Nathan Odokonyero and Tirhys Lukknyomoi.
The trio joined Cranes’ residential camp on Wednesday and trained with the rest of the squad on Thursday, May 26 morning at Kampala Quality PS grounds in Kisaasi.
The Cranes are slated to play Algeria in the group opener of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Saturday (June 4) night in Algiers.
Algeria, who won the AFCON title in 2019, are the hot favourites favourites in the group, which includes Tanzania, Niger and Uganda.
However, Cranes coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic is optimistic his team will be up to the challenge on Saturday. After Thursday’s morning training session, Micho lauded Sekajja of Dulwich Harmlet FC, Odokonyero of Bognor Regis FC and Luknyomoi (AFC Port Chester FC) for their attitude on joining the team.

Ahmed Hussein Marsha, the spokesman for the local governing football body, Fufa, said they are processing official documents for the trio in any case Micho picked any of them in his final squad.
After Algeria, the Cranes will host Niger on Wednesday, June 8 at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
