Stanbic Uganda Cup holders, Vipers SC, booked a semifinal date against Mbarara City FC following a draw conducted Thursday (May 5) morning at FUFA house in Mengo.
BUL FC, last season’s losing finalists, were drawn against lower division Booma FC in the other semifinal fixture. The two-legged semifinal ties will be played between May 10 and 19.
Vipers are overwhelming favourites to retain the Cup and complete their first-ever domestic double triumph (they won the Uganda Premier League title recently).
To reach the semifinal stage, Vipers thrashed Wakiso Giants 3-1 while Mbarara City ejected Mbale Heroes 1-0 in the quarterfinal games played last month.
Booma’s fairytale run in this Cup tournament saw them dump Maroons 2-1 in the quarters, and they remain optimistic to reach their first-ever final. However, BUL, who stopped SC Villa (2-1) in the quarterfinals, could be a hard nut for Booma to crack.
The prestigious annual knockout tournament is sponsored by Stanbic Bank and Plascon Paint.
