DR CONGO: General Wilson Mbadi, the head of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, and Gen. Celestin Mbala Munsense, the head of the Congolese Armed Forces, met together to talk about the defense and security of both countries. They also looked at the progress of Operation Shujaa, which is a joint UPDF and FARDC operation. This is what they talked about:
The meeting, held in the office of the Governor of Ituri, also focused on the evaluation of Operation Shuja phase 2 and the deliberation of transiting into phase 3.
Mbadi praised the efforts of both the UPDF and the FARDC to come up with plans and strategies to get rid of the Allied Democratic Forces-ADF rebels in Eastern DRC.
The Operation Shujja spokesperson, Maj. Peter Mugisa, told this reporter on Monday morning that the two principles also discussed the need for additional manpower from both the UPDF and FARDC and enhancing the security of the road construction from Kasindi-Beni-Butembo.
This is what Maj. General Kayanja Muhanga, who leads the operation as its overall commander, says about the new zonal forces: They will be important for protecting the population as they return to their homes that have been secured from the rebels.
He says they are currently getting overstretched because, in phase two of the operation, the joint forces are highly mobile as the enemy flees in different directions.
Maj. Mugisa said the forces are combing for the ADF terrorists in areas of Musu, Masanze, Luanoli, Kilungu Hill, and Abia where they attacked residents last week.
He says that the UPDF is still doing civil military work for the people in the area.
