KAMPALA: The Member of Parliament for Workers, Abdul Byakatonda, has been dragged to court for allegedly defrauding a family of over Shs1.7b by selling them property belonging to the Departed Asians Properties Custodian Board (DAPCB).
According to the law suit before the court, Byakatonda and a Kampala Capital City Authority councillor, Micdad Muganga, sold to them prime properties in the heart of Kampala in 2019 while claiming to be representing Departed Asians Properties Custodian Board (DAPCB) as staff.
However, DAPCB has since disowned the duo and said such money was never banked on their accounts.
The family members, Asuman Nkambwe, Neddie Nkambwe, Mansul Mbazira and Jane Nambooze, in their suit contend that Byakatonda and Muganga reached out to them in 2019 and sold to them properties at Shs1.7b, saying they were representing Departed Asians Properties Custodian Board (DAPCB). The contested properties are Plot 34 on Rashid Khamis Road, Plot 23 Martin Road and Plot 37 Martin Road, all in Kampala.
The family members claim that they have never received the properties they bought.
The family maintains that the evidence in form of documents implicating the two politicians to have taken money from them has already been filed before court.
The family also wants the two politicians to explain why money belonging to Ugandans ended up in their pockets and not in the coffers of the Custodian Board.
Hearing of the case has been set for March 15.
