ARUSHA: Team Uganda won various awards in the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games in Arusha, Tanzania, thanks to a dominant posture that resulted in numerous victories.
The staff team launched the ground with two victories over Kenya and Zanzibar, with a concession to Tanzania, on Saturday, December 11, 2021.
Phiona Nyamutoro (NRM, National Female Youth) had swept both the 100m and 200m races, putting together spectacular streaks against Kenya’s favourites.

MP Gaffa Mbwatekamwa (NRM, Igara County West) dominated the day with a victory in the gruelling 1,500m race, shocking Kenya. MP Julius Acon Bua (NRM, Otuke), an international athlete, finished second behind MP Mbwatekamwa, allowing the team to take the first strategic positions ahead of Kenya and Tanzania.
Uganda’s supremacy was cemented when MP Francis Zaake (NUP, Mityana Municipality) surprised Kenya with a win in the 100m men’s competition.
Uganda’s Parliamentary Women’s and Men’s golf teams earned Gold and Silver, respectively, to finish first and second overall in the tournament against Kenya on Wednesday.#EACGamesArusha
The tug of war, female competition, slowed the pace of victory slightly, with a tie against Zanzibar, a loss to EALA, and a victory against Kenya.
Uganda won 2-0 against Burindi in a football match played at the Moshi International School, Arusha Campus. The game that had several chances for the squad to score additional goals.
In volleyball, Uganda defeated Tanzania 26-24 in the first set, but the hosts won the second set 29-27, the third set 25-16, and the fourth set 30-28, sealing team Uganda’s fate in an adrenaline-filled intense encounter.
On Thursday, 09 December 2021, the basketball team fell against Tanzania, as did the ladies’ volleyball team, who put up a lacklustre effort against the East African Legislative Assembly.
