KAMPALA: Ibrahim Tusubira aka Isma Olaxess has been charged with incitement to violence. He appeared before the Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza.
Blogger Ibrahim Tusubira a.k.a Isma Olaxess has been charged with incitement to violence.
Tusubira appeared before Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza on Wednesday. On November 21, he was arrested.
The prosecution claims that on November 17, while at Kyanja Village in Wakiso District, Tusubira incited the people to commit terrorism, a capital felony.
Tusubira is also accused of inciting sectarianism in violation of sections 41(1)(a) and (d) of the penal code, according to the police statement of offense.
“On the 17th day of November 2021 at Kyanja Village in the Wakiso District, Tusubira Ibrahim alias Isma Olaxess recorded and published a video with utterances likely to degrade, revile, expose to hatred or contempt; raise discontent or disaffection; and promote in many other ways feelings of ill will or hostility among or against any group of persons on account of religion,” the charge sheet reads in part.
Following the Tuesday double explosions in Kampala, which killed seven people, the video went viral on social media.
Tusubira requested bail, claiming he had a heart condition.
Tusubira’s plea was granted, and Muhumuza gave him a cash bail of one million Shillings, while his sureties Yudaya Kigozi, Mohammed Ssebalamu, and Sharifah Nabukeera were requested for 50 million Shillings in non-cash bail.
The case was deferred until December 21.
