KAMPALA: Alex Esagala, Daily Monitor photo journalist has won Audience’s Choice Award of the Decade. Esagala’s win comes after he was voted by the people as Photo Journalist of the Decade.
“I thank people who voted me as Uganda’s Photo Journalist of the Decade. This is not simple, I don’t take it for granted. I want to thank God for this gift. Indeed, this is my year,” Esagala said.
Esagala was announced winner alongside Nicholas Bamulanzeki an Observer Photo Journalist who won Favourite Photo category of the decade. This was on Saturday, November 20, at Motiv in industrial area in Kampala.
In addition to the win, Esagala also took home a Canon EOS M50 MK2 with 15-45 courtesy of Canon Central and North Africa.
Esagala is a well-known Photo Journalist that emerged overall winner at the Press Photo Awards in 2018, and his works have been published in the 2019 human Rights Violations in Uganda Report published by human Rights, Peace Centre and Makerere University.
The Audience’s Choice Award of the Decade competition was organized by Uganda Press Photo (UPPA) which called upon the audience to vote the category winners of the UPPA 10th edition at the final stage. UPPA is a platform for photographers and people interested in photography in Uganda and East Africa, founded in 2012.
