NTUNGAMO: The NRM leadership in Ntungamo has extended First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni’s tenure as the district party chairperson for the next five years.
During a NRM caucus meeting held at the district council hall on Wednesday, the district leaders unanimously agreed that Ms Museveni, who is also the minister of Education and Sports, should stay in the position because she has done a lot for the ruling party in the district.
The motion to endorse Ms Museveni was moved by the councillor for Nyarutuuntu sub county, Pius Niwagaba.
“Mr speaker sir and my fellow honourable councillors, I stand here before you in this August house to seek your mandate to support me and endorse our party chairperson Maama Janet Museveni to continue serving us as our District NRM party chairperson because she has done a splendiferous work towards and she is able to bring many things in our district,” I beg to rest my case.
After that, speaker after speaker moved to support the motion before it was unanimously approved. Ms Museveni has been district party chairperson since 2016.
In the same meeting, Mugumya William Kanahe was elected unopposed as the district NRM Caucus chairperson deputised by Emily Nice. Everest Mubangizi was voted the secretary general, Justus Mubangizi as the Treasurer and Muhumuza Denis Savimbi as the publicity secretary.
The District NRM registrar Maria Mirembe, Seth Rukurungu, the personal secretary to the first lady and Twinomujuni Valentine, witnessed the election.
Ntungamo district council is made up of 63 councillors who all subscribe to NRM party.
