KAMPALA: The major roads leading out of Kampala are experiencing thick traffic jam as people try to leave the city centre following two bomb blasts on Tuesday, 16 November 2021.
At different taxi stages such as City Square and Mapeera Building, thousands of people could be seen boarding vehicles to leave the city at around 11am.
As a result, on Jinja Road, Wandegeya traffic lights, Mulago roundabout, Spear Motors in Nakawa, Entebbe road and Nakulabye, several vehicles were seen stuck in traffic jam.
A joint security team of Special Forces Command, UPDF, CMI, Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce, Counter Terrorism Police and Military Police have also secured key government installations and buildings in Kampala.
The bomb blasts occurred at the entrance of Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala while another one was at Parliamentary Avenue, with the Inspectorate of Government offices on Jubilee Insurance Building the most affected.
And now, the heavily armed security forces have cordoned off the scenes of crime while roads around them have been blocked, with no vehicle or people allowed around them.
Parliament has been closed off, with no one allowed to enter or exit. The nearby KCCA offices and key government offices such as Education Service Commission and National Theatre have also been sealed off.
Photos and videos shared on social media showed heavy clouds of smoke and some cars burning near Jubilee Insurance along Parliamentary Avenue.
A fire truck put out the fire at Parliamentary Avenue, which burnt a car to ashes.
The number of the dead and injured is yet to be established.
