TIRINYI: Two children have been injured after an ordinance exploded in Tirinyi Town Council, Kibuku District, on Wednesday evening.
The children were playing with the ordinance in a banana plantation when it exploded.
Ms Immaculate Alaso, the Bukedi North regional police spokesperson, identified the injured as Namwoyo Ivan,5, Kagoro Innocent aged 6.
Ms Alaso said the children were rushed to Tirinyi Health Centre III for treatment.
“Our officers have responded to an incident suspected to be a blast of an ordinance at Kujji I village, Kujji parish in Tirinyi Town Council, Kibuku and cordoned off the scene,” she said.
This comes a day after an explosive device went off in Kasese, injuring two children and an adult in Kogere cell Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality. The adult, Jovia Musoki, 30, escaped the attack with minor injuries.
Locals allege that the children, who usually scout for scrap to sell from the vicinity, returned home last night with the metallic device they claim to have collected from a nearby UPDF training ground and dumped it in a scrap store. The device exploded moments after it was placed on the ground.
On October 29, 2021, two children died after a suspected bomb exploded at Ssegalye village, Nakaseke district.
The deceased were identified as Pius Kiwuwa aged 12 and Micheal Kiyingi aged 14 whereas another child aged nine months identified only as Odong was injured in the explosion that occurred in Semuto sub-county on the same day.
