KAMPALA: The head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Col Edith Nakalema, has asked police recruits to desist from corruption when they are deployed for work.
Addressing 5,502 Police recruits at Kabalye Police Training Unit in Masindi on Thursday, Col Nakalema also urged the new recruits is that if they find their supervisors or bosses engaging in corruption, they should call her personal phone number – 0772634743 or the toll free line 0800202500.
“Be officers of integrity and do not be tempted to get involved in corruption. As the unit, we have only 15 Police Detectives and yet they do a wonderful job so imagine the impact you could have,” she said
“Desist from becoming candidates of arrest but be candidates of great hope for our Nation. I thank you all for listening to me and surely we shall move together in National Development. Go and protect lives and property, keep peace and stop crime,” she added.
Nakalema said that in a period of less than three years, the anti-corruption office she leads has caused the recovery if over sh30bn and has arraigned in courts of law some 317 public officials.
