KAMPALA: Ugandan driver Yasin Nasser has finished seventh overall in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally, which ended this afternoon (October, 23) in eastern Rwanda.
But the biggest cheer goes out Kenyan ace Carlo Tundo who sealed the delayed 2020 African Rally Championship (ARC) title after winning the three-day Rwanda Rally.
Tundo, in a VW Polo, clocked one hour 29 minutes amd 57.2 seconds to win the rally and earned maximum points. This means the Kenyan has clinched the ARC title with 120 points, and the final round due next month South Africa will be a parade for him.
His triumph was eased by the fact that South African Guy Botteril, his closest challenger, dropped out of the Rwanda rally on Saturday after his car got an engine knock.
Uganda’s Nasser, in a Subaru GBV, leaves the Rwanda track with pride after recovering from mechanical breakdown on Saturday to finish in a respectable seventh place. He hit the finish ramp in one hour 54 minutes 5.2 seconds.
Kenyans Patel Karan (1:29:57.2) and Kimathi McRae (1:40:17.25) took second and third places to complete a Kenyan 1-2-3 sweep.
Homeboy Jean Claude Gakwaya (1;50:40.1) was fourth followed by Burundi’s Din Imtiaz (1:51:24) and Kenyan lady Maxine Wahome (1:52:25.6) in fifth and sixth positions respectively.
