RWANDA: Uganda’s sole representative in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally,Yasin Nasser, will be flagged off sixth from the starting ramp for the first of the two-day competitive event.
This is after his impressive show in the qualifying round this evening, October 22, in Kigali.
According to the starting order, homeboy Giancarlo Davite will be the first driver off the ramp tomorrow, Saturday October 23.
Kenyan McRae Kimathi, Guy Botteril (South Africa), Carlo Tundo(Kenya) and Karan Patel (Kenya) will follow respectively.
The rally, which ends on Sunday, October 24, is the second-last round of the delayed 2020 African Rally Championship (ARC).
Going into this Rwanda Rally, Kenyan Carlo Tundo led the 2020 African championship with 90 points. South Africa Guy Botteril was second with 73 points while Nasser lay in third position, with 49 points. The ARC final round will be in South Africa next month.
Nasser is coming off back-to-back third-place finishes in Tanzania and Zambia Rally rounds in the last months.
The Subaru GBV driver, navigated by Ali Kitumba, expects better fortunes in Rwanda.
“We are going all out for another podium finish, and most likely, better than we got in Zambia last month,” Nasser told this website before the rally flagged off on Friday.
Before the Zambia Rally, Nasser finished in similar position during the Tanzania Rally in August.
It is worth noting that Nasser is attempting to become the second Ugandan driver to win the ARC title after the late Charles Muhangi clinched it in 1999.
